The Canyon Hills 9/10 yr old team followed up
their initial victory with a 7-6 loss to a very talented Upland American team.
Canyon Hills took an early 3-1 lead behind solid pitching from Daniel Diaz and
Brandon Salazar. But 2 late inning rallies put Upland American ahead 7-3. Canyon
Hills mounted an exciting comeback in the bottom of the 5th to pull within 1

Ontario Central |
15-2 |
The Canyon Hills 9/10 yr old
team came through with another strong performance in defeating Ontario Central
15-2.
Once again scoring 3 runs in the first inning, Canyon
Hills jumped out to an early lead using a 2-run double from Brandon Salazar and
an RBI single from Andrew Santoyo.
Given the early lead, Tim Rangel took control of the
game striking out the first six batters Ontario Central sent to the plate and
eleven total in the game. Rangel was dominating, taking a perfect game into the
fourth inning, when with two outs Ontario Central bunted for a single. Backed by
solid defense from Santoyo and Marcus Casillas, that would be all Ontario
Central could manage through the first 5 innings.
Taking a 6-0 lead into the 6th, Canyon Hills exploded
for 9 more runs, started by an RBI single from Casillas, and highlighted by a
3-run triple from Garrett Salazar. Ontario Central managed to scrape together 2
runs in the bottom of the 6th following a couple of miscues, but were eliminated
from the tournament as Garrett Salazar blocked home and tagged out a runner on a
throw from Rangel to end the game. |

Chino National |
8-2 |
The Canyon Hills 9/10 yr old All-Stars had another
exceptional game in defeating Chino National 8-2, taking their tournament record
to 3-1.
Once again strong pitching led the way as Brandon
Salazar pitched a complete game for the victory, striking out 3. Salazar was
backed by a strong defense throughout the game, with Brandon and Tim Rangel
combining on a 1st inning pick-off of a Chino National base runner to help stop
a rally. Brother Garrett Salazar had another strong performance behind the
plate, and also made a spectacular bare handed catch of an attempted bunt to
stop another rally in the 4th.
Andrew Santoyo put Canyon Hills on the board in the 1st
with an RBI. In the 3rd, Canyon Hills jumped to a 5-0 lead using an RBI triple
from Garrett Salazar and an RBI single from Mark Fausto.
Leading 5-2 going into the top of the 6th, Canyon Hills

Ontario Eastern |
7-6 |
The 9/10 yr old All-Stars won
again beating Ontario Eastern 7-6. Behind another strong pitching performance,
Canyon Hills was able to overcome some shaky defense to capture the victory.
Tim Rangel got Canyon Hills on the board with a 2-out
RBI double in the 1st. But defensive miscues put Ontario Eastern in front in the
bottom of the 1st, 2-1.
The score remained the same going into the bottom of
the 3rd, when Ontario Eastern started to mount a rally. With a runner on first,
Brandon Salazar raced into short left field to snag a pop-up and fired to first
to double off the runner.
Inspired by the double play, Canyon Hills jumped ahead
in the top of the 4th, using a Garrett Salazar RBI single; and following a solid
at-bat from Marcus Casillas, 2 more runs scored on an Ontario Eastern misplay.
In the 5th, Canyon Hills added another run on a Brandon
Salazar single. But Ontario Eastern capitalized on more Canyon Hills defensive
problems to score 2 and get within 5-4.
Garrett Salazar got things going in the 6th with a
single, advancing around to third on a ground out. Following a fielder's choice
from Casillas, Jordan Robinson drove in Salazar with another fielder's choice.
Robinson then advanced around the bases and scored on a passed ball.
The bottom of the 6th saw Ontario Eastern attempt to
come from behind. Having scored 2 runs and with a runner on first and the tying
run on third, the game ended as a ground ball to Brandon Salazar was booted to
2nd base where Joseph Martinez grabbed the ball and dove to tag the base for the
final out.
Rangel pitched the complete game for the victory,
striking out 12. |

Ontario Mountain View |
6-11 |
The tournament season for the
Canyon Hills 9/10 yr old All-Stars came to an end as they were defeated 11-6 by
Ontario Mountain View.
OMV used some shaky Canyon Hills defense to jump to an
early 4-0 lead. Garrett Salazar got Canyon Hills on the board with a 1st inning
RBI single.
In the 3rd, Canyon Hills got back within 2 runs on an
RBI single from Glenn Riley and a 2-run double from Joseph Martinez to make the
score 6-4.

miscues in upping their lead to 11-4 in the 5th. Canyon Hills was able to get a
couple runs back in the 6th, on a Brandon Roe RBI single, and an RBI ground out
