Chino National |
12-15 |
Canyon Hills started slowly as
they fell behind Chino National 2-0 in the top of the first
inning. But an RBI double from Brad Bodon scored Matt Hunsaker in the
bottom of the inning to cut the lead in half.
Four unearned runs cost Canyon
Hills in the 2nd and 3rd innings as they fell behind 6-1. But a 10-run
inning in the bottom of the 3rd gave Canyon Hills a reprieve. Behind
2 hits each from Jarred Negast and Trent Rangel during the inning, the first 9
batters reached base and scored. RBIs from Negast, Rangel, Jason Mass,
Lawrence Larivee, Andrew Hernandez, Hunsaker and Bodon
punctuated the huge inning.
Behind a gutsy pitching
performance from Rangel, striking out 10 in 5 1/3 innings, the Canyon Hills
Juniors took an 11-7 lead into the top of the seventh inning. But shaky
defense once again cost the team as Chino National scored 4 runs, 3 unearned, in
tying the score. Unable to score in the bottom of the seventh, Canyon
Hills was forced into extra innings. Behind 3 hits and more questionable
fielding, Chino National jumped to a 15-11 lead. In the bottom of the
eighth, Canyon Hills mounted a rally, scoring one run and loading the bases
before the final out was made.
Four
hits from Rangel and three from Negast led the Canyon
Hills attack, which also saw 2 doubles from Bodon, and another from Trevor
Collins. |

Ontario Central |
20-1 |
Canyon Hills jumped to an early 9-0
first inning lead over Ontario Central. Two hits apiece from Andrew
Hernandez, Logan Laszczyk, and Matt Hunsaker bolstered the huge rally. For
the game, five hits from Hernandez and four from Hunsaker paced the offense
which scored 2 more runs in the third, and added another 9 in the fourth.
Two hits from Brad Bodon, Joseph Makarounas, and Kreg Keller added to the total,
with Wesley Nelson, Trevor Collins, Lawrence Larivee, and Aaron Perez also
gaining hits and Jay Schellin scoring a couple of runs. Hernandez scored
four times, with Collins coming across three times.
Canyon Hills used outstanding
pitching from Hunsaker, Nelson and Jason Mass to No-Hit Ontario Central,
allowing only one run on a hit batter, two walks, and a balk. Hunsaker
pitched one inning striking out 2, with Nelson adding a strike out in his two
innings. Mass finished up with a dominating performance striking out 5 of
the 6 batters he faced and getting the other to pop up back to him, while
throwing 18 strikes in 25 pitches.

Ontario Eastern |
9-5 |
Once again jumping on top early,
Canyon Hills took a 1-0 lead in the first inning lead over Ontario Eastern, as a
sacrifice fly off the bat of Matt Hunsaker scored Andrew Hernandez. The
lead grew to 4-0 in the top of the third on RBIs from Jarred Negast, Brad Bodon,
and Trent Rangel, as Jay Schellin, Negast and Hunsaker each scored. After Ontario
Eastern cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the third, Canyon Hills responded
with 2 RBIs from Hunsaker knocking in Hernandez and Negast.
Two unearned runs in the
bottom of the fourth cut Canyon Hills' lead to 6-4. Three more runs in the
top of the sixth made the score 9-5 as Hunsaker knocked in Hernandez again, and
Bodon scored Negast and Hunsaker.
Ontario Eastern got 1 run back in the seventh, but left 2 on as Hunsaker struck
out their lead-off hitter for the final out.
Hunsaker pitched a solid game,
striking out 5 in six innings, while allowing only 1 earned run while Ontario
Eastern mounted rallies in every inning.

Ontario Western |
6-7 |
Canyon Hills jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as
consecutive RBI singles from Trent Rangel and Trevor Collins scored Jarred
Negast and Brad Bodon who had previously walked. Negast, pitching in his
first game of the tournament, was solid on the mound as he battled to overcome
some shaky defense and sun aided offense for Ontario Western, which took a 4-2
lead after 4 innings.
In the fifth inning, Canyon
Hills tied the game as Matt Hunsaker drove in two runs with a double, with Andrew
Hernandez and Negast scoring. After setting Ontario Western down on 5
pitches in the bottom of the fifth, Negast ran into trouble in the sixth loading
the bases with no outs. Jason Mass entered the game and struck out the
first two batters he faced, before getting an inning ending flyout to keep the
game tied.
With two outs in the seventh,
Canyon Hills mounted their rally for the game. Negast singled, and an
error and walk to Hunsaker and Bodon loaded the bases. Rangel and Collins
once again produced runs as Canyon Hills jumped to a 6-4 lead. But the
lead was short-lived as Ontario Western scored three runs in the bottom of the
seventh to knock Canyon Hills from the tournament.
Negast finished the game with
5 strikeouts, walking only 1, while Mass added 3 more Ks. |
