Ontario Western

6/22/06

6-0      The Canyon Hills Junior All-Stars started out strong with Justin Nathasingh taking the mound in their first game and striking out the side to begin their match-up vs. Ontario Western.  In the bottom of the first, two out walks to Josh Thomasson and Trent Rangel brought up Matt Zurita.  Zurita hit a towering shot to centerfield that fell in and scored Thomasson for Canyon Hills to take a 1-0 lead.
Nathasingh continued his mastery striking out 2 more in the second, another in the third, and 1 more in the fourth, surrendering only a walk in the second.  While Canyon Hills added to their lead in the 3rd inning, following a double from Chris Ferreira, a single from Thomasson, and a walk to Zurita to load the bases, a two-out error of the bat of Ricardo Martin scored Ferreira and Thomasson for a 3-0 advantage.
In the 5th, a lead off single by Ontario Western broke up Nathasingh's bid at a no-hitter.  But Nathasingh came back to strike out 2 more in the inning, and all Ontario Western would get for the remainder of the game would be another walk.
The bottom of the 5th saw Canyon Hills double their lead as a walk to Zurita, a single by Zach Kling, a walk to Gabriel Bernardo preceded a 2-run single from Nathasingh.  Following a walk to Brandon McNitt, Ferreira produced an RBI single for the final score of 6-0.
Nathasingh threw 82 pitches in the complete game 1-hitter, striking out 11, facing only 3 batters above the minimum.  Thomasson reached base 4 times, with Ferreira and Zurita 3 times each, and Kling adding 2 hits in the Canyon Hills attack.

Ontario Mtn. View

6/24/06

11-10      In their second game, Trent Rangel took the mound for the Canyon Hills team against the host team from Ontario Mountain View following a 60 min. delay due to an umpire scheduling issue.  In the top of the first, OMV scored twice as Rangel struggled to find his control.  Canyon Hills came right back to post four runs as Logan Laszczyk singled and later scored on an early OMV error, Chris Ferreira scored on a Matt Zurita single, and following a Rangel double, both Zurita and Rangel scored on a single from Ricardo Martin.
After Rangel struck out the side in the second, Canyon Hills mounted another rally.  Brandon McNitt walked, Laszczyk singled again, and Ferrerira walked.  Josh Thomasson added an RBI base on balls, and Zurita added a 2-run single.  Ricardo Martin added another RBI as the lead grew to 8-2.
Rangel set down OMV in the 3rd and 4th, striking out his 6th batter along the way, but Canyon Hills couldn't add to their lead, although they had back-to back singles from McNitt and Laszczyk in the 3rd, with Josh Clavel and Gabriel Bernardo reaching base in the 4th.
In the 5th, Rangel fell victim to a nagging blister injury and had to be removed after allowing 2 more runs, but Clavel took the mound and stopped any further damage.  Canyon Hills got the 2 runs back in the bottom of the inning as McNitt singled again, stole second, and scored on Laszczyk's 4th single of the game.  Laszczyk then stole 2nd and 3rd base, and scored on an errant throw from the OMV catcher, upping the Canyon Hills lead to 10-4.
The 6th inning saw OMV scratch out 3 runs to get to 10-7, but Canyon Hills pushed up another run in the bottom of the inning as Martin scored following being hit by a pitch, stealing second, and an error by the OMV second baseman off the bat of Justin Nathasingh.
McNitt took the mound in the 7th and quickly recorded 2 outs.  But OMV didn't concede as they mounted a comeback following a walk and four consecutive bloop singles to get the tying and go ahead runs on base.  But McNitt would not be defeated as he struck out the final OMV batter to grab Canyon Hills the victory.

In the 4th, Nathasingh struck out 2 before taking a line drive off his leg.  He recovered on the play to get the runner at first to end the inning.  Lasczcyk led off the Canyon Hills half with a walk and got his third stolen base of the game.  Following another walk to Zurita, Rangel got his third single of the game to put Canyon Hills up 13-3.
Trying to close out the game, Canyon Hills struggled a little defensively and Creekside capitalized to score 3 runs.  But once again Canyon Hills had an answer.  Gabriel Bernardo walked and stole second, later scoring on an errant throw from the pitcher.  Josh Thomasson drove a double off the left field fence, and scored on a single by Lasczcyk, who moved up on an error by the center fielder.  Ferreira then singled in Lasczcyk to end the game, 16-6.
