Rory Markas
Rory Markas and Canyon Hills LL
Angel broadcaster Rory Markas passed away this week. Rory loved baseball at all levels, and had a connection with Canyon Hills Little League.
One of Rory's colleagues in the radio business was David Ysais, who managed and coached in Canyon Hills LL for many years.
In 2006, David invited Rory to meet with the Canyon Hills Junior Cardinals at the Carl's Jr across the street from Anaheim Stadium before a Sunday Angel game. Not only did Rory come, but he brought Angel third base coach Dino Ebel with him, to talk to the team about baseball, commitments, and what the game can teach you.
Both Coach Ebel and Rory were extremely gracious and spent more than an hour giving tips and giving of themselves. Afterwards, they took photos with the team.
This meeting took place a few days before the Cardinals played in that year's Junior division championship. After winning the championship, David Ysais let Rory know of the victory. Rory was thrilled for the Cardinals and offered to come back and speak the following season, because that's the kind of guy he was.
Rory Markas himself played Little League baseball in the San Fernando Valley. He loved kids, his job, and Little League baseball. He was a talented, genuine, funny and giving person.
He will be missed by sports fans from Canyon Hills Little League, across Southern California, and by people like David Ysais, who were fortunate enough to call him a friend.
